This certificate program prepares you to work in a child care setting with young children and families. Graduates of this certificate program provide quality child care to young children in various settings and are eligible for Child Care Worker certification. Ninety-five per cent of graduates of this program find work in their field.

Note 2: This program is offered in a variety of delivery options which include full-time delivery, of the 3-credit courses, part-time delivery evenings and weekends of the 3-credit courses, audio conferencing delivery, online delivery of the 1-credit courses, print based home study in 1-credit courses and workshop delivery.

Admission requirements
Academic Requirements
• Credit in either English 30-1 or 30-2 or equivalentOR:
• Successful completion of the General Equivalency Development test (GED) with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts: Reading and WritingOR:
• Satisfactory Results on the BVC Admissions TestOR:
• Completion of nine, one-credit Support Strategy Courses AND six credits in Early Learning and Child Care courses for a total of 15 credits.
Pre-Program Requirements
The criteria listed below must be completed prior to the first day of classes:
• Current Police Information Check (PIC) with vulnerable sector search
Note : Students who have not submitted their documents by the start of the program will have their Letter of Admission withdrawn.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants whose first language is NOT English must demonstrate ONE of the following:
• Achievement of a valid TOEFL score of 477 - 510 on the paper-based test or a score of 53-64 on the internet-based test (iBT)
• Achievement of a valid Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall band score of 5.0
• Complete the Bow Valley College EAP program with a grade of “B”
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of three years of full-time secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction
• Where applicable, a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) standard as determined by the Career program
• Successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts (ELA) course that is consistent with the specified academic admission requirements for the program
• Satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions test
International students please note: academic, pre-program, and English language proficiency requirements must be met for entrance into this program.
