Recreation Therapy Aide Certificate (Part-Time)

This exciting program enhances the employability skills of individuals who have a Health Care Aide credential. The program is for you if you are currently working in long-term care agencies, group homes, assisted living, day support programs or the home and community care health sector and want to expand your role within the area of recreational therapy. A flexible approach to instruction is offered in the form of online instruction, workshops and home study in order to accommodate individuals working in the role of the Health Care Aide. The Recreation Therapy Aide program focuses on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the Health Care Aide to further enhance their ability to work effectively within a team in various recreation therapy settings, enhancing the quality of life for their clients. A work experience component provides an opportunity to apply the learned knowledge and skills.

Admission requirements

Academic Requirements

• Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide Certificate Program or equivalent
AND
• Current employment in the Health Care field

Applicants are requested to review the requirements listed below and assess their ability in regard to the demands of the occupation of a Recreation Therapy Aide:

• fairly strenuous physical activity
• be on their feet for extended periods of time
• use their knees, back, and arms to move clients who have minimal body strength
• function effectively in stressful situations
• perform all skills independently
