The FALL 2010 semester of the Hospital Unit Clerk program is full; therefore, applications to the FALL 2010 semester of the Hospital Unit Clerk (HUC) program are no longer being accepted. Applications to the HUC WINTER 2011 semester will be accepted as of September 13, 2010.
This accelerated full-time program (24-week) is scheduled over two semesters and prepares you to manage information in a hospital nursing unit. Learn about basic human needs, hospital organization, medical terminology, processing medical orders, communication skills, telephone and reception activities, and basic computer skills. Over 95% of our Hospital Unit Clerk graduates find employment.

Admission requirements
Academic Requirements
Admission requirements are currently under review.
• Credit in English 30-1 or 30-2 or equivalentOR:
• Credit in Applied or Pure Math 10 or Math 14 or Math 24
• Successful completion of the General Equivalency Development test (GED) with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts: Reading and Writing and 450 in MathOR:
• Satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions test
Pre-Program Requirements
The criteria listed below must be completed prior to the first day of classes:
• A current valid immunization report is required, and must be approved by BVC Health Services
• Submission of a current Police Information Check (PIC)
Note: Students who have not submitted their documents by the start of the program will have their Letter of Admission withdrawn.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants whose first language is NOT English must demonstrate ONE of the following:
• Achievement of a valid TOEFL score of 527 - 530 on the paper-based test or a score of 71 on the internet-based test (iBT)
• Achievement of a valid Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall band score of 5.5
• Complete the Bow Valley College EAP program with a grade of “B”
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of three years of full-time secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction
• Where applicable, a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) standard as determined by the Career program
• Successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts (ELA) course that is consistent with the specified academic admission requirements for the program
• Satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions test
